QUEERS INSPIRE QUEERS L/S TEE
QUEERS INSPIRE QUEERS L/S TEE
We wanted to create some pieces that remind us to reclaim symbols of oppression and reinstate them as badges of honor for those who have come before us and those who continue to fight for equality.
//PINK TRIANGLE//The pink triangle was created by Nazi Germany in the 1930s and 1940s to distinguish prisoners who were identified as homosexual men imprisoned in concentration camps. This badge was revived as a symbol of protest against homophobia and is now a symbol of pride in the larger LGBTQA+ community.
//QUEER TYPOGRAPHY// - IF I DIE OF AIDS - FORGET BURIAL - JUST DROP MY BODY ON THE STEPS OF THE F.D.A.
This font was created by Be Oakley and made available by Genderfail. The letters were created from a significant photographic artifact depicting artist David Wojnarowicz wearing a denim jacket during a 1988 demonstration at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) headquarters. The image shows Wojnarowicz, pictured from the back, with a painted pink triangle and the words of the fonts namesake. The typeset is designed only using the letters included on the jacket itself.
//QUEERS INSPIRE QUEERS//
In order to create our “QUEERS INSPIRE QUEERS” tee, gaps in the alphabet were filled by emulating existing forms of the font IF I DIE OF AIDS - FORGET BURIAL - JUST DROP MY BODY ON THE STEPS OF THE F.D.A.
